Salsa Festivals and Congresses 2026: What's the Difference and What's On
By Salsa Events · March 25, 2026
SalsaEvents.com tracks 178 festival events and 36 congress events worldwide. Both are multi-day formats, but they differ in scale, structure, and typical attendance. This article explains the distinction and covers notable events from the 2026 calendar.
Festival vs. Congress: The Difference
A salsa or bachata festival is a multi-day event, typically 3 to 5 days, combining workshops, evening parties, and sometimes shows or competitions. Festivals vary widely in size, from smaller regional gatherings of a few hundred attendees to large international events.
A congress is a larger organized event, usually 2 to 5 days, with a more structured program: many workshops across multiple tracks, evening parties, shows, and often a competition. Congresses typically draw 500 or more attendees and feature a substantial lineup of international artists. The term “congress” is more common in the salsa and bachata communities than in kizomba circuits.
